Montenegro has a coast on the Adriatic Sea to the south-west and is bordered by Croatia to the west, Bosnia and Herzegovina to the northwest, Serbia to the northeast, and Albania to the south-east. Its capital and largest city is Podgorica, while Cetinje is designated as the Prijestonica, meaning the former Royal Capital City.

Montenegro is a member of the UN, the World Trade Organization, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, the Council of Europe, the Central European Free Trade Agreement and a founding member of the Union for the Mediterranean.
Montenegro also is a candidate for joining the European Union and NATO.

  • Montenegro has a 293 km long coast with 117 beautiful beaches, totally 73 km in length.
  • 13 km long, Velika Plaza is the longest beach on the Adriatic coastline.
  • The Boka Kotorska Bay is the most beatiful bay in this part of world.
  • Sveti Stefan, a town-hotel, is the only island in the world connected to the mainland by an embankment made of sand. This luxury island resort, reopened by new owners Aman hosted many celebrities in past years.
  • The Old Town of Kotor, the Tara River Canyon and the National Park of Durmitor are protected as the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, due to their natural, cultural and historic values.
  • The Tara River Canyon is the longest canyon in Montenegro and Europe and the second-longest in the world. It is 82 kilometers long and 1,300 meters deep, at its deepest.
  • The Biogradska Gora National Park is 54 km2 in area. It is the second largest untouched forest in Europe.
  • Lake Skadar is the habitat of 270 bird and 48 fish species, including 15 endemic ones. It has a rich flora with an abundance of endemic plant species and more than 25 rare plants.
  • The Cathedral of Saint Tripun in Kotor is 69 years older than the Cathedral of Notre-Dame in Paris.
  • The Ostrog Monastery, situated in the mountains is placed against an almost vertical background, high up in the large rock of Ostroška Greda. It is dedicated to local saint (Sveti Vasilije Ostroški). Ostrog monastery is the most popular pilgrimage place in Montenegro.
  • “Porto Montenegro” an all-encompassing resort of hotels, eateries, shops and glitzy marina – may have 600 yacht berths, waters deep enough to accommodate the most super of superyachts and apartments and should be the largest marina in the Mediterranean Sea.
